JULIA HESELTINE Sunday Morning, Southwold|2008
Although trained as a portraitist Julia is also, in her paintings at least, something of a mystic and she has a real talent for investing real meticulously observed scenes with an air of surrealistic mystery. Here she seems to do just this, painting a view of Southwold's Centre Cliff in which the swimmer with her flowing towel could almost be an angel, and in which the shadow in the foreground adds an air of mystery or intrigue to an otherwise innocent Sunday morning scene.
