The Birds Have Flown By Amanda White
In 1636 Oliver Cromwell, hero - or villain (depending on your historical point of view) - moved into this house in Ely. From here he raised a troop of 60 horsemen for the Parliamentarian cause in the English Civil War and the rest is history.
The birds in the title refer to a key event in English history when King Charles I entered the House of Commons to arrest some rebellious MPs who, forewarned, had fled the building.
